Schema Therapy Workshop 3: The Model, Methods, and Techniques
August 12 & 13 2026

Workshop is run from 9am-4.45pm each day (AEST) Sydney/Melb/Canberra Time (AEST), 7am- 2.45pm Perth/ Singapore/ HK

This workshop is designed for those who have at least attended foundation Schema Therapy training (level 1) and are seeking to further develop and fine tune skills. The workshop will specifically focus on developing skills to deliver new Imagery Rescripting & Chairwork protocols (e.g. Current Life Imagery Protocol, Pattern-Breaking Imagery). Attendees will also learn a framework for overcoming stuckness in the presentation of strong Inner Critic Modes including so called ‘super-critics’ (e.g. this includes those that present with ambivalence in ‘getting rid’ of their critic mode). Furthermore, attendees will develop further skills in formulating and managing difficult coping mode presentations such as the new “pseudo-vulnerability” modes (e.g. complaining protector, victim/pity mode, helpless surrenderer and others), and those with chronic treatment-resistant avoidance and other rigid (Cluster-C) mode presentations.

14-hours of CPD 8-hours Didactic Lecture based learning 6-hours Dyadic (role play, skills practice)

These hours can be counted as 14-Hours of Schema Therapy Continuing Education Credits (CE) as set out by the International Society for Schema Therapy (ISST). Can also be used towards ISST Individual Certification for those that need to extend their time limit beyond 3-Years.

Target Audience

Ideally, Schema Therapists who have already attended both Level 1 (Foundations), and Level 2 (Advanced) Schema Therapy Training. Those that have already completed Level 1 but not Level 2 are also welcome to join. For those seeking accreditation, Level 1 and 2 schema therapy training is required with level 3 being recommended.

Learning Objectives
Further Develop skills and confidence in Imagery Rescripting and mode work dialogues in chairs (Chairwork)-
- Learn new experiential protocols that have been published in the past few years to cover various clinical scenarios and presentations (not covered in Level 1 and Level 2 Foundational Training).
- Improved skills and knowledge in intervening with treatment-resistant Inner Critic (Parent) Modes.
Develop skills in formulation and treatment of chronic treatment resistant ‘stuck’ modes, specifically in relation to pseudo-vulnerability modes, and other ‘Cluster-C’ presentations

Chris Hayes Clinical Psychologist, Accredited Advanced Schema Therapist


Chris is a Clinical Psychologist and Advanced Schema Therapist based in Perth, Western Australia. He has had extensive experience in both government and private settings working with clients with complex psychological presentations. Since 2005, he has been practicing as an advanced Schema Therapist, supervisor and trainer having completed certification in Schema Therapy at the Schema Therapy Institute in New York City (USA) with Dr Jeffery Young. He has presented workshops throughout Europe, Asia and Australasia. He is the Director of Schema Therapy Training Australia.

In addition to the provision of Schema Therapy training and supervision, he is currently employed with the Health Department of Western Australia as a Senior Clinical Psychologist (within a specialist service working with those who have experienced recent or childhood sexual trauma).

He has co-produced 2 DVD/ video releases "Fine Tuning Imagery Rescripting" and “Fine Tuning Chair Work in Schema Therapy", both of which are highly recommended (and the 1st of their kind internationally).  He has previously served as Secretary of the Board for the International Society of Schema therapy (ISST).

ISST Accredited Supervisor/Trainer, Clinical Psychologist


Robert is a clinical psychologist and researcher living and working out of Sydney Australia. From 2010-2017 Robert's work life consisted of supervising and lecturing on Clinical Psychology Masters programs (Western Sydney University; University of Technology) and running a small private practice. This practice has evolved into Schema Therapy Sydney the first schema therapy focused private practice to be established in Sydney. Rob has been affiliated with Schema Therapy Training Australia for the past 8 years and now regularly provides accredited schema trainings across Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, and Hong Kong.

In 2018, Rob co-authored a new schema therapy book Contextual Schema Therapy along with Eckhard Roediger and Bruce Stevens (published by New Harbinger in June 2018). His central contribution to this work has been on integrating 3rd wave techniques (e.g. Mindfulness, Self-compassion, Values) to explicitly build the healthy adult mode in schema therapy.
