Seeing Through a Schema Lens: Advanced Case Conceptualisation in Practice

Seeing Through a Schema Lens: Advanced Case Conceptualisation in Practice

Designed for clinicians with foundational knowledge of Schema Therapy, this webinar strengthens the ability to develop nuanced, clinically useful case conceptualisations. Participants will explore the interplay between unmet emotional needs, schemas, coping responses and modes, with particular attention to complex or overlapping patterns. Through applied case material, participants will refine their ability to identify maintaining cycles, test formulation hypotheses and use conceptualisation to guide treatment priorities, intervention selection and the therapeutic relationship.

Learning Objectives
Integrate unmet emotional needs, early maladaptive schemas, coping responses and schema modes into a coherent case conceptualisation.

Differentiate between overlapping schemas and modes within complex clinical presentations.

Identify the key maintaining cycles connecting triggers, emotions, cognitions, coping responses and interpersonal consequences.

Develop and test formulation hypotheses using client history, current patterns and in-session observations.

Use case conceptualisation to establish treatment priorities and select appropriate cognitive, experiential, behavioural and relational interventions.

Recognise how the formulation can inform limited reparenting, empathic confrontation and management of the therapeutic relationship.

Revise the formulation collaboratively as new clinical information and patterns emerge.
